Project overview

Mr. Mannas Agarwwal's 3,600 square foot Noida project brings together a terrace landscape, a private gym and a warm, earthy interior language. The project is conceived as a wellness-oriented extension of residential life rather than a gym inserted into leftover space. Greenery, muted tones, natural textures and controlled modern detailing create a calm experience that shifts between movement, recovery and quiet time. Studio GENESIS used the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces as the organising idea: the gym gains visual relief from the planted terrace, while the landscape gains purpose through the way people reach, occupy and look into it. The result is contemporary but not clinical, with material choices that support both performance and relaxation.

The challenge

The central challenge was to connect indoor living, outdoor landscape and wellness spaces while maintaining privacy and comfort. A gym requires durable, resilient surfaces and clear equipment zones, but the project also needed to feel like part of a considered home. The terrace had to handle weather, maintenance, drainage and privacy without becoming an exposed platform of equipment. Visual connections were valuable, yet glare, reflection and overlooking had to be controlled. The design therefore needed to coordinate architecture, landscape, lighting, ventilation, storage and user movement from the beginning.

Design approach

Polished concrete establishes a continuous, durable ground for the gym and selected interior areas, giving the project a calm base that can withstand active use. Black rubber is used where impact absorption and equipment performance matter, but its dark surface is balanced by warm timber tones, greenery and soft light. Powder-coated steel supports the practical elements of the gym and exterior structures, bringing a precise industrial note without making the space feel commercial. Tempered mirror glass expands the sense of depth and supports training, but it is positioned carefully so reflection remains useful rather than visually aggressive. The private gym is organised around clear circulation, equipment spacing and sightlines towards the terrace. Storage is integrated so accessories and maintenance items do not remain on display, allowing the room to reset between workouts. Outside, planted edges soften the built form and create a sequence of places to pause before or after exercise. The landscape is selected and placed with privacy, sun and maintenance in mind, not simply as a decorative green wall. Warm layered lighting supports different modes of use: even illumination for movement, focused task light where equipment needs it, and softer accents that make the terrace and recovery areas feel residential in the evening. During execution, the studio coordinated floor levels, drainage, electrical requirements, mirror joints, steelwork and planting zones so the transition between gym and terrace stayed safe and visually clean. The completed project feels resort-like because it combines performance with atmosphere. Nature is not an afterthought, and wellness is not reduced to equipment; both are designed as part of a daily spatial experience.
